What would it be like to be in a crayon world?

Crayon Physics Deluxe - Youtube
For a totally different type of computer game, watch this video of a game where the object is to draw your way out of problems with a crayon. It doesn't hurt that the music is really chilled out too.

From the NFL's Cleveland Browns - Baltimore Ravens game yesterday, here's a video of a strange field goal play that I've never even heard of in a football game before.

Best dunker you've never seen: Kadour Ziani

Would you believe that the best slam dunker in the world doesn't play basketball in the NBA, and isn't American. Kadour Ziani is from France and he's only 5'11, but with 56 inches of vertical he seems to fly we haven't seen since Michael Jordan at his prime. Kadour's creativity and his athleticism take his dunks to the next level. My faves are the one-armed cartwheel dunk and the dunk over the car, are completely sick.

A video of Kadour Ziani from Metacafe:

Saul Williams releases album online with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor

Saul Williams : Niggy Tardust

It started with Radiohead, now suddenly everybody wants to do some kind of online pay-what-you-want album release. This time it's Saul Williams, who is collaborating with Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. You have the option of paying $5 for a high resolution download, or getting a lower 192 kbps mp3 version of the album.
My introduction to the collaboration came from an interview with Trent and Saul in NY Mag online.
YouTube video to follow.

Discover new music from TV commercials

Music from TV commercials on Squidoo
As radio continues to get stale, ironically, the best new music is showing up in commercials. It's rare that the artists get credit for the funky music that makes the commercials "cool".

Who are these artists? N.E.R.D., Flaming Lips, Matthew Dear, Wilco, Teddybears, Ok Go, MSTRKRFT, Brazilian Girls, The Helio Sequence, Yoshida Brothers, Wolfmother, Ozomatli, Goldfrapp, CocoRosie, Royksopp, Dizzy Gillespie, and The Polyphonic Spree, to name just a few of the artists featured here.

This Squidoo Lens has TONS of current and classic TV ads with great music. The clips come from YouTube and elsewhere, and have the names of the songs and the artists. For you marketing, film and design junkies, the ads that get the best music also often have some of the best visual concepts.

So, go ahead! Enjoy the commercials without the guilt!

Pink Floyd with Wizard of Oz - Week of YouTube Day 5

Dark Side of the Rainbow- YouTube

There's always been that rumor that you can sync up Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album with the movie The Wizard of Oz, but I'd never bothered to try it.
With the help of YouTube and the internet, it's so much easier to experience this urban legend. Today's link is a YouTube Playlist that has seven different videos from the movie, and you can watch as images from the film appear to synchronise with the music and lyrics.

Superman and Spiderman team up in Bollywood? - Week of YouTube: Day 4

Indian Superman Part 2 - Youtube

There's something that's obscenely great about being able to access obscure video content from anywhere in the world, whether it's cheesy singing and dancing, anime, or reports from the locations of breaking news.

Of course, when anyone teams up in Bollywood, there's bound to be entertaining song and dance productions. This video clip is no exception with Superman and Spiderman (Spiderwoman?) flying, singing, dancing and busting heads. Only on Youtube.

Unbelievable Video Footage of 747 Landings - Week of YouTube: Day 3

My grandfather was an airplane enthusiast, and passed along some of his passion to me. Maybe both of today's YouTube links will instill as much awe in you as they did for me.

1. An amazing Boeing 747 landing at Princess Juliana International Airport on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, captured from Maho Beach. The airport is famous for its short landing strip at only 2,180 meters.

2. A Boeing 747 landing at Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong, which was decommissioned in 1998.

Bonus: Video of a 747 jet thrust shredding a car on Metacafe.

Christopher Walken - Week of YouTube: Day 1

Dancin' Pimp

Why not feature a week of video clips from the mother of all video channels, Youtube?

Ever since I discovered him around the time of Pulp Fiction, I’ve had an affinity for Christopher Walken. First, our names are so similar; he’s Christopher Walken, I’m Christopher Walks. Secondly, he’s a really great actor with lots of unusual, juicy character roles. Thirdly, I found out that despite all the strange roles he’s played, Christopher Walken got his start in show biz as a trained dancer.

Apparently, in every film he’s in, Christopher Walken tries to incorporate a dance scene or some fancy footwork as a signature move. His dancing was profiled most recently in the Fatboy Slim video for “Weapon of Choice”.

From all of the Walken movies I’ve seen, this scene from the 1981 film Pennies from Heaven blows my mind, particularly the second half of the clip. Watch and be amazed.

Michael Moore's "SICKO" on Google Video

Michael Moore's "SICKO"

Michael Moore's new movie, Sicko, is about the state of the American medical system. For whatever reason, it has been posted on Google Video before it has even been released in theatres. I'm guessing that the director may have leaked it himself. Who knows? It's been getting great reviews, so check it before it disappears.

The Best Long Takes in Film History

The Long Take- The Greatest Long Tracking Shots in Cinema

One of the ways that film directors can show their prowess with the camera is to shoot a complicated scene using just one take of the camera, and to keep it rolling for several minutes.

Daily Film Dose has complied a list of the greatest long tracking shots. The usual suspects are here, such as Touch of Evil , Raging Bull and Godard's Week End. There are also a lot of obscure, foreign and new listings too, such as: Old Boy, Children of Men, Russian Ark and I Am Cuba.

Even better, there are links for most of these movies so you can watch these awesome shots in Youtube.

What's the deal with Yahoo! Pipes?

YouTunes: An Example Yahoo! Pipe

There are lots of nooks and crannies on the internet powerhouse, Yahoo. Their latest invention, Yahoo Pipes, is getting a lot of attention. Essentially, it lets you mash-up web-based RSS feeds (from Flickr, blogs, news sites, podcasts, Twitter, Linkjockey, YouTube, etc), and blend them, filter them, remix them, and have them cross-reference each other.

Today's link is the one that really showed me what Yahoo Pipes are all about. Nick Bradbury created a simple pipe (RSS feed) that took the Top 10 from the iTunes store, and got the music videos for them from YouTube.

There are some great write-ups about it that go into more detail, like the introduction from Tom Johnson, the one from Australia's Computerworld about how to build your own Pipe, and the Pipes Tutorial from zdnet.

I'm hoping to have a few to show off over the next week.
