Is 3D the future of television and movies?

Remember those scenes in Star Wars with the 3D holographic projections? The people at USC have developed a "Light Field Display" that shows images the same way, and they show it off in this 5 minute video. Compared to High-Def images, obviously this technology has a long way to go, but it is definitely very cool technology.
