New model online record label: RCRD LBL

RCRD LBL

Finally someone seems to have the internet music business thing figured out, and it's the people behind Engadget and Gizmodo.
The music is available for free in DRM-free, 192 Kbps MP3s on a website supported by advertising revenue. Artists and labels sign up, and despite just launching this week, the roster is impressive.

Here are some of my favorite artists on RCRD LBL:

The best source of Web 2.0 news

Mashable

Mashable is a comprehensive news site covering the events of Web 2.0.

In their own words, "Mashable is the world's largest blog focused exclusively on social networks." In practical terms, some of the news stories in the past couple of days have been about:
- a wine review site (Snooth Launches Basic Wine Reviews Site),
- new Facebook applications (SmartTravel, NewsCloud and Jaiku Facebook Apps),
- an online music collaboration site (JamNow Launches Music Collaboration Site),
- a new advertising medium for bloggers (Wize Launches Affiliate Widgets for Bloggers) and
- Web 2.0 finance and aquisitions news (ThisNext Raises Round of Venture Debt).

In true Web 2.0 fashion, you can create your own profile Mashable including friends, tags and messaging.

Sending Large Files over the net with Web, Widgets and Facebook

Box.net

Transferring large files can be pretty tricky on the net. Although you can now send attachments up to 20 MB with Gmail, anyone that doesn’t have Gmail won’t be able to receive the files.

Box.net is a service that lets you store and share up to 1 GB of files for free. There are limits to the free service (such as limiting uploads to 10 MB), but you can upgrade to one of their Premium Services. Social Networking site, Facebook has opened up its code to software developers. Box.net has taken advantage of this, and you can share files with your friends over Facebook.

I’ve posted a promo track from Ulrich Schnauss, who I really like. The file is an example of the Box.net experience, so go ahead and download it from the widget, Facebook or this link.

LabPixies - Coolest Gadgets On The Web

Sometimes known as "Widgets", LabPixies creates little web gadgets that provide functionality to websites. The News panel on the right and the Space Invaders widget on the left are some of the best examples of the stuff that they currently offer.
Forget surfing! LabPixies brings the content to your website.
Send me an email if you know other sites with great widget content!
